Who knows.. life is moving on... I took my daughter to the park a few weeks after seperation..she was playing kickball with her friends..the ball went past her..and I instinctively ran to kick it back..I was so suprised that I could move...it began a new me...started playing tennis...wish I could do it more...started a jogging regimine...couch to 5k.. I am on my final week this week..week 9...when I started I struggled to run for 20 seconds...I had joggers lungs..cough, cough.. I am proud to say that I am currently able to jog 30 minutes without stopping...my lungs and heart are strong...I recently summited a mountain with my sis-in-law....wasn't sure i'd make it..kept thinking about the three legged dog that passed us up...if he could do it...so could I..lol.. today, 5 months after my husband left and two months before my divorce is final I have lost 40 solid pounds...I enjoy jogging..it is finally a habit.. 3+ days a week, now I have a weight program to fill in the every other day...and I was able to sweat!! Love it already... need to learn to eat properly so I don't leave the processed legacy for my daughter..... praise God..for he alone is good.....

Alana, That is awe-inspiring!!! <hugs> thanks so much for sharing your journey with us. I'm looking forward to reading more...and what a wonderfully suitable name you have - LIGHT. You're both the shining light and weight lite. Let us know when you go sky-diving - it's something I wanna try too.

Awesome guys, am starting out fresh with the exercise too. Working on quitting smoking, got into cycling this summer but now is too cold and can't seem to get into it on the trainer. Am trying to learn to run but don't have any umph left, have been so depressed, I used the cycling to vent and wear myself out. I'd like to be able to run but can't seem to run for long without knees hurting and have to stop to walk again, I can go bout 10 secs if that before they hurt. Oh well, keep pushing, just not going as fast as I'd like - that is not in speed, that is in being steadily working out.
So back to work, and trudging along trying to find common ground for life.

hey Buffy, I too have problems running. My shins get really strained. You need really good shoes with lots of support for running. I bike because there's no strain on my shins or knees. I bike on a trainer in the cooler days right in front of the TV. But I find a big difference in the type of shows, so no soap operas but something that's fast paced and exciting (best is cycling races of course). Whether you run or bike, it's a good idea to do intervals i.e. go faster for a few minutes (or less as you start out) and then at a slower pace for the next few minutes. Log what you do and over time you'll see you're doing better and better. We're watching

Mr. J - exercise is really a great path to getting focus and feeling better in mind, body and soul. Break-ups are hard but oftentimes it's for the best. Just means it wasn't the right fit. In time, you'll find your balance again. After my break-up I trained to do a century (cycling 100 miles). Being focused on a training program and pushing myself to the mental and physical limits really helped me find focus and balance. In time you'll find your new you

Yep the show on tv really might have something to do with it, cause I was so bored and strugged to stay on up to 3 miles. I was riding anywhere from 20-50 a day and now nothing. I hate it. I really want to try to run but my knees just don't know bout it. I wear braces right now, and once in a while I don't use them for biking.......now that's a slow ride but my goal for it was not has fast but how far/long I could go without my braces. These past two weeks there's just been no motivation and I'm regaining my wait cause I'm eating out of boredom and depression. I gotta quit that. And I've been picking up a cigarrette here and there, grr, can't start that too when I'm trying to stop. Anyway thanks for writing back, the more I was looking around the site after I wrote the more I was thinking it went by the way side and no one uses it anymore. Guess we'll find out.

yeah I find the TV shows really influence my pace of riding. I much prefer outdoor riding so tend to be much slower indoors. I've been considering getting some sort of cycling DVD. Best shows I've found so far are sports ones cuz they tend to be a bit more exciting. oh yeah you gotta cut out the cigs big time, nibble on a carrot instead

Yep I've been doing good with the not smoking, considering I smoked bout 1-2 packs aday for about 38 years, down to having one or two every 3 or 4 days when I can't seem to handle the stress I'd say is pretty good. I do notice lack of oxygen when I do smoke that one or two though so that helps me to put off that "stress" one even longer. I had bought a Kurt Kinetic trainer back in may, it came with a intervals training dvd, am going to be breaking that out today to see what it's like after I wake up. Working nights drains a person. Used to work out after work but I can't do that when I work nights, seems after nights I just wanna go straight to bed. Working dayshift though I can work out and am not tired. Must be that circardian rythm thing messing me up. Am not changing jobs so got to figure something out to get everything in and still try to keep my house up and all. WHEW!!! can be exhausting just thinking about it.

hey buffy, good to see your cutting back on smoking. It's a major no-no i know a lot of people use smoking to try to handle stress but there are many better and healthier ways to manage stress. I tell my clients that if they want to work with me, they have to stop smoking. If you work nights, you might wnat to try doing a round of yoga or stretching to help you unwind and relax after you get off.

Alana you're an inspiration to a lot of folks, keep it up and you'll reach your goals. Rely on your faith and your friends for a boost when you need it. For what its worth, most change in our lives is beyond our control so take it from me (a type A x 10!) believe in yourself and make the most of everyday. Sounds like you are well on your way to a new you and setting a great example for your daughter.

Mr J, figured you might appreciate these but seriously, get out, do the things you enjoy and you never know who you'll meet when you're not looking. By all means marry. If you get a good wife, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher. Socrates 'I've had bad luck with both my wives. The first one left me, and the second one didn't.' James Holt McGavra You know what I did before I married? Anything I wanted to. Anonymous My wife and I were happy for twenty years. Then we met. Henny Youngman A man inserted an 'ad' in the classifieds: 'Wife wanted'. Next day he received a hundred letters. They all said the same thing: 'You can have mine.' Anonymous

Hey Buffy, you ever try swimming? If you have knee and ankle problems, I'd say go a little light on the running but swimming is really great exercise, easy on the joints, gives your shoulders a nice vee shape and lots of places have swim groups and clubs for folks of any ability. Check it out. I'm also a hard core cyclist and agree that cycling on a trainer can be tough, just not the same as riding outside. However, you can play some games with your head and do intervals or get a cyclocomputer to monitor your cadence and HR and set some goals there. I track all this in FitSync with exercsies for intervals and spinning and crusing, etc. in addition to all my outdoor rides. Some final tips, get a fan to blow lightly on you while riding on your trainer because you will roast even if its chilly in the house. Also lay a towel across the handlebars to keep from soaking your bike AND set a couple water bottles and the TV remote on a high table or chair next to you. When its too cold to ride, I get on the trainer every time I watch TV whether its 30 mintues of news or a 2 hour movie, great alternative to planting my behind on the sofa.
