hi fitsync team,

was just reading through the board and decided to leave this request.
I joind fitsync quite a while ago, but had not used it for a long time. I restarted my training couple of month ago and restarted to use fitsync. Just a great application!

Today I use my SE Mobile with the JAVA application and it's really handy, only thing I miss is the possibility to enter notes. Anyway, as I plan to get an iPhone asap, I was wondering if you guys plan to have the iPhone supported. I understand that installed apps are not possible on the iPhone, but a nice web2.0 interface would just be cool.

Thanks and keep your great work ongoing.

Neven-
Thanks very much for the kind words.  Great to hear that you like FitSync and have started using it regularly again.  We just made some changes to our workout widgets and profile widgets so take a look at them and tell us what you think.  We're also in the process of making some upgrades to our mobile features so I'll pass on your request for editing exercise notes to the dev team for consideration.

On to your question - we have not tested the iPhone but we have several users who have reported that our JAVA/J2ME app runs fine on the iPhone.  You should be able to go to http://fitsync.com/install on your iPhone's browser and download/install our app over the air just like you did for your SE (I have FitSync on a SE K700i).  The only possible limitation might be if your network operator blocks downloads but in the US Verizon is the only operator that I know of that still does that and I don't believe they will be offering the iPhone.

Thanks again for checking in and the nice compliments.  Stay in touch.  Best of health to you!

Hi Neven-
We've just launched our iPhone version in beta.  It is fully functional and works with any FitSync account.

Go to http://fitsync.com/iphone on your iPhone or iPod Touch (via Wi-Fi) and login with your FitSync username and password.

Give it a try and let us know what you think.  We plan a public launch in a few weeks so would really appreciate any feedback you can provide.

Can you make an offline application for the iPhone/iPod touch that doesn't require an internet connection? My gym doesn't have wi-fi and it would be nice to enter data while working out. =)

Very good question, pullablank.  Actually, you can log data offline on the FitSync iPhone/iPod Touch app - you only need a connection to upload your data to the Web.  Let me explain.

All of our other apps (Palm, Win Mobile, and Java) are completely off line for exactly the reason you mention; not all gyms have Wi-Fi connections plus an offline app is typically faster than an online app.  Another advantage is that you can log offline and then upload your data whenever you want.

Although the FitSync iPhone/iPod Touch app requires a net connection for some features, it really blurs the line between "online" and "offline" apps because you can use it offline.  This is completely different from other browser based, online apps that don't work at all unless there's a constant connection.

With the FitSync iPhone/iPod Touch app the only time you need a net connection is when logging in and downloading workouts, syncing/uploading data, viewing videos, or viewing your performance charts.  This helps whether you're in a gym with limited Wi-Fi or with poor cell phone reception in some areas.  It also means that once you've logged in and downloaded your workouts, you can log data for all of your exercises.

Here's how it works - when you launch FitSync on your iPhone/iPod Touch and login it will automatically establish a net connection to download your workouts and then it will disconnect.  You can then pick a workout, go to an exercise and log data.  When you tap "sync" a net connection is automatically established to upload your data.  Same process when you view an exercise video or your performance charts. As long as you don't close your browser and exit the app your session will stay active offline for up to 2 hours.  Once you re-establish a connection you can upload your data.  The FitSync iPhone/iPod Touch app is really a hybrid offline/online app so it can still function in an offline environment.

Here's how I use FitSync on my iPod Touch:  My gym doesn't have Wi-Fi but there's a public Wi-Fi at a Starbucks 2 blocks away.  I login to FitSync at Starbucks (and have my pre-workout shot of coffee and a banana), hit the gym and log all my data.  When I'm done I swing by Starbucks again to upload my data and have another banana and a big OJ.  I keep the FitSync app/browser open the whole time and don't browse to any other sites.  My workouts last about an hour and so far it's worked fine for me.

Give this a try and see if it works for you.  Make sure you only have your browser open to FitSync - don't go browsing around anywhere else otherwise you might lose your session.  When you are able to establish a connection, go into each exercise and tap "sync data" to upload your data to your FitSync.com account.  I've been doing this for a few months now and works fine and from what our users tell us FitSync is the only iPhone/iPod Touch app that can function offline.

Try this and let us know your experience with it.  Thanks for checking in and please let us know how else we can improve the app.
