Wow!  Great updates on your site.  Haven't been on your site for a while.  I'm glad to see you are improving it.

I have a new Samsung i760 and wanted to install the mobile version.
Can I use FitSync with my i760?

It's not working and I had some conflicting errors;
1) One message said I neded to install a MS patch for .NET
When I try to update my Moblile OS, the site there are no new updates.

2) Another message said the software is for an older version of my OS so won't run. I'm running Mobile 6.

3) When I try to start the app, I receive the error "File or assembly name 'Syetem.data.sqlserc=verCe. version=1.0.50000.0, Culture=neutral ... was not found"  The error is loger that that but that is enought to give you the idea.
It then goes on to say failed to load required components. - .NET CF Initialization Error.

I saw another post that Verizon wasn't the most friendly carrier.

Can I use FitSync with my i760?

Hi Charles-
Thanks for the kind words.  We've been working hard on improving the site and really depend on feedback from users like you to tell us what you'd like to see.  Glad you like it and stay tuned for more new features coming plus a brand new home page!

Now onto your question.  You should be able to use FitSync on your Samsung (we have users in Asia and Europe using FitSync on similar Samsungs); however, Verizon could be the wildcard but first let's run through the basics.

1 - When you do the install make sure you are installing to your device and not to the storage card.

2 - You can ignore the message "...designed for a previous versions of Windows Mobile and may not display properly..."  - all that means is that we have not optimized for landscape mode so if you view the app in landscape you may need to scroll horizontally

3 - If you are having trouble installing over the air from your carrier through your carrier's telephone network, try going through a Wi-Fi network not affiliated with your carrier or try installing via ActiveSync direct to your device (you can download and save the FitSync installer to your desktop and then move it to your PDA via ActiveSync and then run the FitSync installer on your PDA.

4 - Make sure you have enough memory/storage available - you'll need about 3MB.

Now for the Verizon and US carrier issues.  It is common in the US for carriers to modify or disable some features on the phones and PDAs they sell.  This is done to either block your access to services not provided by the carrier (like a competing movie listing directory or mp3 library) or to make it harder for you to change carriers (like not letting you export your calendar and address book from your old phone).

Sometimes it's nothing more than branding an Audiovox device "Verizon" without making any changes at all to the operating system on the device but it is more common to disable some features and limit the Internet site you can visit from your phone.

There was a big stink a few years ago (plus lawsuits) when Verizon disabled a lot of the features on Motorola phones without telling people in advance.  For example, you couldn't export your address book or wirelessly beam (IR or Bluetooth) data.  Another Verizon limitation was only letting users download applications, ringtones, and mp3s from the Verizon store AND you had to have a Verizon "get it now" phone.  So, if yoiu wanted to download the NOtre Dame fight song to your phone (or UCLA, Penn State, etc.) you were stuck unless it was offered in the Verizon online store.  You could browse almost anywhere but you couldn't download or install apps.

We've heard that Verizon has opened up their Internet access in some markets but there could still be some Verizon restrictions on either your Samsung or on the particular network you're using.  Try the tips above and see if that works and let us know and thanks again for the compliments - nice to hear that you guys like what we're doing.

Thank you, John, for your quick and very thorough reply.

Success - I am off to the gym tomorrow morning and will try the new app on my new phone for the first time.

Thank you VERY much for your help,

Not exactly sure what I did wrong the first time.
I uninstalled the old install and reinstalled again.
Down load - fine
Install in device (not storage card) - fine.
"CE Setup Error" on install completion  - "FitSyncInstaller requires the installation of netcf.all.wce4.armv4.cab for it to run properly.  Install this cab file before running the application."
Ran install - fine.
Ran app - fine,  YEA!   Grin

Thanks for your insight into Verizon.  I found it fascinating.
I just upgraded my old Palm phone with Verizon to this new i760.
I sometimes wonder if I should have gone with the iPhone but I'm a huge Microsoft person so figured I'd wait for now.
I've been pretty happy with Verizon.  Had a couple of issues, but far less than some of the other horror stories I hear.I often run across people like yourself that know far more than I allow me to learn from their experience.

Again, much appreciated.  I look forward to exploring this new app.!
