Hey

Just found this application, and it looks like a great little product.

I'm trying to install this on my Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 phone, and am getting the following message during the install of the third install file FitSync_PPC.ARMV4.CAB:

FitSync requires the installation of netcf.all.wce4.armv4.cab for it to run properly. Install the Cab file before running this application
This is a similar error mentioned in other threads on this forum, but the suggested resolution (installing on device, or downloading over WiFi) don't seem to work for me

"netcf" I guess applies to the .Net Compact Framework, but 2.0 SP2 is already installed on my machine. The XPERIA runs Windows Mobile v6.1. Since this is a new OS, does FitSync work on v6.1?

Thanks in advance for any assistance

Hey Alex-
Couple things could be going on here.

First is that devices provided by US carriers often use non-standard implementations of Windows Mobile.  FitSync will run fine on pretty much any device in Asia, Europe, UK, Middle East, etc. but on the US side the same device might have problems.  Pretty common for US carriers to disable some features or fiddle with the net connection or restrict app download and install.  There are some easy solutions.

To start, make sure you're downloading the FitSync installer via Wi-Fi or ActiveSync via your desktop.  DON'T use the carrier phone network because they will often block app downloads and sometimes they'll even rig the phone to not allow app installs.

It sounds like you're doing this but make sure you're getting a clean Wi-Fi connection and not the carrier's Wi-Fi at a coffee shop because you could have the same problem of blocked/interrupted downloads.  Also, sometimes devices will default over to the phone network even if you think you're using Wi-Fi.  Best approach is to use ActiveSync via your net connected PC.

Another thing is that the FitSync installer will only run once after you download it so you'll need to download the installer fresh if you want to do an install.  I'd also suggest removing the FitSync app and installer and doing a soft reset to make sure your device is clean before each install attempt.

Next, make sure you're installing to the device and not a storage card.  A lot of devices will default install to a storage card which won't work and will produce the net.cf advisory message. but it sounds like you've got this covered.

Try a reinstall and if you get the advisory just ignore it and see what happens.  In the meantime, which carrier did you get the device from?  We can do some checking to see if maybe they monkeyed with your device and maybe that's what's causing the problem.

Just thought you might like some closure on my issue...

I installed . NET Compact Framework v3.5 which was officially released a few days ago and the install now completes successfully

Great news, thanks for checking in and giving us an update.  We'll pass this along to others.  Thanks again.
