The problem with pedometers is that they aren't accurate. By not accurate I mean plus or minus a quarter mile per mile. Here's why: most pedometers count foot strides or foot steps. And as you know, if you walk on a flat surface at a pretty good pace, you'll have a long stride and you'll cover more distance. But, if you're going up a steep hill, like some of those super steep ones in San Francisco, your stride will be half. You might want to look at some of the GPS runner's watches where they give you a pretty accurate measurement. One more thing, those pedometers that supposedly tell you how far you've gone and how many calories you've burnt, are really broad estimates.
