Author Topic: Issues Installing On AllTel HTC Mogul (ppc6800)  (Read 2158 times)

« on: 06-Jan-09, 09:30:20 AM »

I have tried running the installer numerous times. The fitsync installer cab installs fine. Also when i run the installer program, the sql clients install fine, but it runs the installer for fitsync (fitsync_ppc.armv4.cab), it comes back with the usuall Fisync requires the installation of netcf... I click ok to this, then it bombs out with a windows error report in tmarshaller.exe. After this, it reports installation was unsuccesful, and no fitsync program icon.

I am running mobile 6.1 on this device. This is on a fresh hard reset, once letting alltel customizations run, theother time not. HELP!!!

This looks like a really good app, but rather disappointed i cannot get it on my smartphone.

Hi Bill-
Let me see if I can help you out.  Because carrier supplied/branded devices (Verizon, Sprint, Alltel, etc.) sometimes use non-standard implementations of Windows Mobile there can be some quirks or incompatibilities.

Try this:

1 - Make sure you're running Windows Mobile Classic or Professional and not the Smartphone version.

2 - If possible, download the installer via Wi-Fi or AcitveSync.  Sometimes the telcos mobile phone Internet connection will run through proxies or will block download of apps.

3 - When you run the installer, install the app to the device and not the storage card.

4 - During install ignore/dismiss the pop up messages that say netcf etc. is required.

If you need to do a reinstall you will need to download the installer fresh each time as it will only run once.  For a re-install, go into Remove Programs and delete the installer and any other FitSync components and then download the installer again.

We have some HTCs here in the shop running FitSync without any trouble but we do get the "netcf missing" message so just dismiss it.

Hope this helps.

I have tried installing via connected active sync connection.

I am installing to the device, and have tried to install numerous times.

Any other ideas??

Otherwise, is there a way for me to try an older version and see if that goes through??

Ok, think i found a workaround.

I reinstalled, this time when the netcf message came up while installing, i went into programs and ran the progam. I didn't login, but just enough to start the program and then exited.

Then i restarted the device.

It's working like a charm.

Hope this helps anyone else out there struggling with the install.

Nice work, Bill.  Thanks for sharing your install discovery.  I'm sure there will be some other HTC owners out there who could use your method.

The trick is getting around the netcf advisory.  Sometimes it works if you dismiss it, other times you can just ignore it or x out of it.  I had the same issue with my HTC.  Can you share the steps you went through?  Did you just ignore the netcf message?

Thanks,

John
