I have a Black Berry Storm and I am currently having problems using the fitsync program. I went to the website http://fitsync.com/install and downloaded the application, but I am getting an error +

" Error starting FitSync: Symbol'Commandlistener.SELECT_COMMAND' not found.

What do I do??

Sorry for delay in responding to your post, Kaleb.  FitSync will run on most Blackberry devices but not all because individual carriers may either modify the devices or filter Internet access.

First, make sure you've installed the correct FitSync mobile app.  For the Storm you'll need our Java app.  Normally our OTA installer will do a device detect and serve up the correct FitSync app for your device but sometimes carrier mods will keep us from detecting the correct device.  Can you tell if you got .jar and .jad FitSync files on your device?  If not, try a reinstall and select the Java version.

When I go to http://fitsync.com/install it automatically brings up one mobile app, the FitSync J2ME application. When I install it, and then try to run it I get the error. It does not let me see if it is a .jar or .jad file.

It could be a problem with your carrier.  What network/mobile operator are you using?  Have you had problems installing other third party applications?  Here's another option:  are you able to sync or move files between your PC and your phone?  If so, you might be able to install the jar and jad files manually from your PC to your phone.

I have verizon.. I see that FitSync has had other problems with this carrier.

I am able to download other third party applications, and I am also able to hook my phone up to my computer and put stuff on it. I am not sure about applications though, I will try though.

Verizon is your problem.  On most of their devices they restrict app install and download to their "get it now" channel which means only Verizon apps.  THe only way around this is to install direct via Wi-Fi or sync to your PC.  Otherwise Verizon will block it through their network.  Total pain.

I recently had an 'epic fail' involving my Palm Centro, a zip lock bag and some water and switched to a Blackberry 8330 (Curve).

I am getting the same Java error message when attempting to execute the Java version on the mobile phone.

Any update on where the Blackberry version is at in the development process?

If you are looking for people to test the application I would be willing to be a beta tester for the application.

Thanks,

Patrick

That Centro story sounds interesting - I'm guessing it was a day at the beach and the ziplock bag did a better job keeping water in than out.

What error message are you getting?  It could be we're not detecting the right device and serving up the wrong app to install.  You could try installing the jar and jad files directly and then launching the app.

No new news on a Blackberry version but you're on the list as a potential victim OOPS! I mean beta tester (a little engineer humor there).  But seriously, for beta testers we set up a separate FitSync account for you so you don't have to worry about screwing up your real data.

I have Sprint and don't seem to have any issues running most other apps.  The message I am getting is the following:
Error starting FitSync: Symbol 'CommandListener.SELECT_COMMAND' not found.

I installed via the http://fitsync.com/install.  I am not sure if it is the JAR or JAD file.  I get this message when the Application starts (just opening it up).  Nothing else occurs on the screen, so it is acting like it is an issue with the Java version versus a carrier issue (at least that is what it looks like to me).

I tried to use the mobile site (http://fitsync.com/mobile), but that only shows links to the exercise videos, but no way to enter in data.  Using the main site (ignoring the fact that the screen is pretty small to display the web page), the integrated browser does not support the CSS menu options (the onclick options for example).  Everything displays, just the actions do not work correctly.

I am going to try to get an alternate browser and see if there is one that will allow me to enter my data.  My next option after the alternate browser is possibly getting an iPod touch (been looking for an excuse to get one for a while).

Patrick I'd say this is a sign to go and get that iPod Touch! (or iPhone or Android G1/G2).

The tricky thing with Blackberry devices from US carriers is they've been modified for each network which means there might be restrictions on installing or running apps or syncing or other functions.  Since very few apps (other than email clients) sync data the way FitSync does I'm not surprised other apps will run.

However, because we both download and upload data during the sync you'll need a "data" plan from your operator and also a clean network connection.  If the operator runs you through a proxy or messes with the OS or disables some features our app might not work (we don't have this problem in Europed or Asia).

So, I'd say you could try a few more things or upgrade to that new device you've always wanted anyway.  You could even try an Android/G1/G2 - pretty cool devices and some carriers ahve them for $100.

One more thing - the mobile site is for video viewing only and not for logging so a different browser won't make a difference.

Check in again anytime if you have more questions.
