David - are you for real?  305 squats!  I've been watching this little race between you and Paul (pretty good at 205).  You guys are off the charts.  I'm waaay behind but I'll practice some and when my stats look better I'll submit them to the rankings.

Hey there,

The 305 effort was exactly that...an effort.  I felt it for several days after.

Paul and I have been going back and forth for a while now.  He is a cyclist, I am a runner, so we both have an endurance edge in this particular exercise.

I look forward to you joining in the competition.  Who knows what the real record could be!

Thanks but David's the clear champ..for now.  Once the cycling season is over I'll start doing the bodyweight squats again.  The problem is that when I do 200 squats I'm so sore that I know I wouldn't be able to ride my bike for a week!  Or if I did I'd be so slow all the B and C riders would be kicking by butt so for now I'm busting it on the road but when it gets cold I'm back at the squats.  Someone jump in and give David some competition!  I'm betting someone hits 500 before the end of the year.  Maybe a new Guinness World Record category?

I have to say that I felt far from "champion" status when I last tried the squats.  All I could think of was looking the next day/week and knowing that Paul would pull out an enormous effort that would blow me away...again!

It will be fun to see others putting up some big numbers.  I have held the crown long enough.

David,
You're way too humble!  How do you get your legs to stop burning and getting all wobbly?

Hey Steele,

Here's the bad news...with the torture comes the burn and spaghetti legs.

Here's the good news...you start to get feeling back in about a week.

Seriously, as I was performing the last set of squats I went through a phase where the burn was almost unbearable and I hadn't even reached Paul's record effort of 205.  When I got past the 225 mark, the burn started to subside in favour of a more dull ache.  As I approached the 300 mark, the shakes set in and 305 was absolutely all I could do at the time.

David & Paul,
You guys at it again?  Cheesy
Congrats.  363 and 350 squats. You two must have thunder thighs.  I see these cyclists in their tights and their thighs bulge out from their skinny frames. Grin

Yup, here we go again.  Every time I pull off another big effort David comes along and kicks my butt again!

Bad weather here so I took a break from cycling and thought I'd hit a round of squats.  This last effort was done while watching the first 15 - 20 minutes of a movie on cable - that's correct, 350 squats takes a while.  Actually felt good and got into a rhythm but my back started to tighten up around 300 and by 350 I'd had enough.  Next day I could hardly get out of bed, back was killing me!

My advice to anyone who wants to take a shot at the record is to stretch a LOT after you do your record attempt.  Don't do a bunch of squats and then plop onto a crummy couch and watch two movies; you'll regret it.  Next time I'm going for 500!

After my 363 effort, I dread the thought of 500.  Paul, I know I've said this before, but you can keep that crown for a while if you manage th big 500!

This last time, I simply ran out of gas.  The back was fine but the legs, the legs, the legs, ouch for several daya after.

Paul is right, STRETCH after any type of big effort on this exercise.

Way to go Melissa and DK!!!!!

I've been waiting for so long for more crazy people to join the BW squat community.

As added incentive to keep at it, my initial effort was 72 on December 28th, 2006.

I see 500 crashing to the ground.

Hi everyone and thanks David.

I cycle and swim a lot but I don't see the swimming helping in the squats but the cycling definitely.  I felt pretty good and like Paul said you do get into a rhythm after a while after the initial shot of lactic acid starts to dissipate you feel like you can keep going and going and going.  It's a lot like cycling and climbing a huge long hill when your legs are on fire but you know if you can just push through it you can go indefinitely.

My first attempt was interrupted by a neighbor who was knocking on my door and could see me through the window bobbing up and down so I couldn't ignore so I stopped at 176 but I think I could've made 200 that day.  It was my first try so I'm submitting every attempt unless of course it isn't as good as the previous, (hee, hee).

I wasn't too sore the next day but the third day I really felt it my quads and butt because I go much deeper doing squats than when I'm riding but it's really a great workout which I'm going to mix into my regular training and definitely stretch quads and back a lot afterwards like someone else already said maybe Paul or DK said that?

Okie, my tip to everyone, when you do the squats close the windows! because then if people come by you won't get interrupted, you can just ignore them and pretend you're not home Wink

The competition and encouragement is fun so thanks everyone.
